the work of Bonnie Kennedy
Bonnie Kennedy is an American fine artist an illustrator based in the DC metro area.
Bonnie received her AFA from the Maryland School of Art and Design, where she was awarded the Gudelsky Merit Scholarship, and two juried awards for her thesis exhibition. She attended the Visual Arts Center advanced art magnet program at Albert Einstein High School for all four years of high school.
The common thread of her paintings is what she finds personally meaningful and important, which creates a diverse range of subjects. Her work is focused on empowerment and social change, with overarching themes of dreamlike and psychological elements. The paintings have a through-line of symbolism and layers of meaning connecting them. Her work focuses on the internal female experience and female empowerment, which will always be intrinsic to her work, because it's her own experience. She often makes pieces geared toward social issues, particularly power imbalances. The goal of her art is to empower the powerless and shame those in power, hopefully moving them to action, and to shift everyone's idea of who should be held accountable when society's systems fail individuals.
